(probably Trenton Twsp.), NJ; their children:

[#8]    i. Amy, b. about 1730-35, m. Hon. Joseph READING;
       ii. William [Jr.], b. unknown, d. about 1767, m. Ann GREY;
      iii. Lemuel, b. unknown.

The above scenario has not been verified with primary data and I have not seen proof that William [Sr.] is the father of Amy. However, some secondary sources and circumstantial and onomastic evidence suggest this scenario may be correct.

Amy (PIERSON) and Joseph READING named their oldest son William and the name William did not exist in the READING family prior to this. Also, they named one of their sons Pierson.

In William [Jr.]'s will, Joseph READING is one of the witnesses, Thomas READING is one of the executors, and George READING is one of the men who made the inventory. I believe they are brothers, the sons of Gov. John READING. Also, in his will, William [Jr.]'s surname is spelled PEIRSON, and, he says his mother's name is Elizabeth PEIRSON, his brother's name is Lemuel PEIRSON, his wife's name is Ann, he mentions only one child Ely and says Ann is Ely's mother, and he and his brother Lemuel are blacksmiths.

(8) Amy PIERSON, b. about 1730-35 probably in Hunterdon Co., NJ, d. unknown in Hunterdon Co., NJ; m., ca. 21 Jun 1753 probably in Hunterdon Co., NJ, to Hon. Joseph READING (b. 23 Nov 1728, d. 15 Nov 1806).
