ANTIQUE AMERICAN POSTCARDS |
Antiques are generally defined as collectible or desirable objects that are at least one hundred or more years old. All the postcards in this exhibit are over one hundred years old. Most of them have undivided backs which allowed only the mailing address to be written on the back, and, most of those had a space on the front to write a message. The postcards in this exhibit are from what postcard collectors have termed the Private Mailing Card Era (1898-1901) and the Undivided Back Era (1901-1907). This display shows a variety of postcards available during this time period, including a selection of views from most of the U. S. states, and some comic, flowers, holiday, and ship postcards.
The actual text printed on the postcards is in quotation marks. My comments are in brackets.
Abbreviations: DB=dividedback; UB=undivided back; WONPU=written on but not postally used.
