"I entered Rose Polytechnic Institute (Terre Haute, IN) in September 1940. I had not seen the campus, only pictures in the catalog. I liked the faculty representative who came to Male recruiting. I departed Louisville on a Greyhound bus to Indianapolis where I transferred to the Terre Haute bus. The Rose campus is several miles East of Terre Haute, 123 acres of wooded land with two buildings; one housing class rooms, laboratories, and shops, and a dormitory. In 1940 there were 300 students, 130 in the freshman class. The bus driver stopped at the main entrance, I got off the bus and walked up the entrance road, my possessions in one borrowed Gladstone suitcase. I entered the main building where I was greeted by Miss Mary Gilbert. Miss Gilbert said "You must be Harry Frye." I never found out how she knew who I was. She helped every Rose student in many ways during her tenure as Registrar, a great Lady."
